Fanfics: Here We Are Again

Finnick. No, Finnick can't find out now. He just can't! He'll never let me see Katniss again. He'll start hurting himself. He'll start hurting me. No, maybe worse, he'll start hurting Katniss. But what am I gonna do? He won't believe anything I'll say.

Annie wiped her tears and tried re-controlling her sanity. She took a deep breath and closed her eyes. She couldn't say anything, but that doesn't mean she can't do anything. She stepped forward and hugged Finnick, breaking into tears again. He held her tight, she was sure this is confusing him. She didn't need to talk. She was the crazed District 4 woman, she can break down anytime for no reason. He started patting her back, whispering a few words. "Shh. It's alright, it's okay," his voice was calm but shaky, "Finn's got you. I'm here. Don't cry."

His hot breath beside her ear relaxed her. She held him tighter, her tears started to stop. She couldn't help but feel guilty using him like this. She couldn't stand it, but she has to for Katniss. Finnick pulled away and placed his fingers under her chin. He lifted her face slowly until their eyes met. His eyes were as calm as a lake, and yet as wild as an ocean in a storm. It scared her. She wanted to cry again, but the tears never came out.

It was quiet for a few minutes. They never moved from their position. Luckily, no one passed the halls while they were there. Annie's heart started slowing down. She could feel herself almost faint. Finnick apparantly didn't notice it. He tried leaning forward for a kiss. Just seconds before their lips touch Annie pulled away. A big mistake. She gently pushed his hand aside, removed the other from her waist and stepped back. If he wasn't confused a minute ago, he was definitely confused now. Finnick crossed his eyebrows, "What's wrong? Are you okay?"

That's a stupid question. Of course I'm not okay. She tried forcing herself to cry, the tears still never came out. She turned her back on Finnick. He moved closer, holding her shoulders. "Annie? Your ears are turning red. What's wrong?" She felt a tingle down her spine. Unsure of what to say or do, she rubbed her eyes and turned around with a smile. "I'm fine, Finnick. Let's go back to our room. I'm a bit tired." He took her hand, she hesitated on whether releasing or hanging on.

He led her down the hall in silence. Passing by Katniss's and Johanna's room, she winced. She felt weak, she wanted to faint. Her head started throbbing. She closed her eyes and let Finnick guide her. "Hey, Katniss." Finnick shouted, obviously happy. She opened her eyes immediately and mouth get out. Katniss gave a slight nod, but before she could go Finnick let go of Annie's hand and grabbed Katniss's shoulder. "Hey Katniss. Could you help me for a bit?" Katniss turned around and looked at Annie for approval. She just nodded, hoping he'd hand her over. "Uh... sure. What's wrong?"

He looked over to Annie and sighed. He took Katniss a few paces away and started whispering. Annie couldn't hear what they were saying. She fiddled with her fingers until they came back. Finnick looked sad, worried even, and Katniss had a straight face but had that glint of happiness in her eyes. She took Annie's hand, "Come on, we have something to talk about." Her expression was dead serious Annie almost laughed. "Have fun, you two." Finnick sighed again and walked away.

A worried feeling stirred inside Annie. She felt sorry for the District 4 man, but she didn't know what to do. She held onto Katniss's hand tight, still staring at Finnick. Katniss led them to the opposite direction, making the gap between them even greater.
