Fanfics: Pausing Time

Katniss took Delly's hand, her thumb started a back and forth motion. She looked at the young blonde in the eyes. She could see a lot of things familiar to her, loss, hurt, loneliness, fear, she felt sympathy for her. She always thought of Delly as the strong girl, always smiling even though everything's wrong. She remembered watching her laugh along with Peeta when they were kids, bringing her to a smile. Everything was so simple back then, being kids. The Capitol and their rules, the Hunger Games, it disgusts her.

She wiped Delly's tears, making the girl smile again. Delly rested her head on Katniss's shoulders. It felt uncomfortable. Katniss wasn't really used to being in this position, she's usually the one resting her head on Peeta or Annie, but even then she let her do so. Delly's hurt and she wants to do everything she can to help. "They took him away," Delly suddenly whispered, her voice was shaky, "they said he was old enough to become a soldier. I said I'd take his place, but they wanted to keep me here, in case Peeta goes wild again." Katniss's body stiffened. She wasn't sure how to respond to that. Instead, she lifted her hand and placed it over Delly's shoulder.

She seemed to relax even more, Katniss let it be. It feels as if she's relaxed a bit, too. She closed her eyes and took a deep breath, letting the moment seep into her heart. For a few minutes everything was peaceful, like the war never really exsisted. She listened to everything she can hear, her heartbeat, Delly's breathing, the people walking outside, it relaxed her. She held Delly closer and the young girl tensed up. Katniss immediately let go, "Oh, I'm sorry, did I-" "No, no. It's okay. I'm sorry. Please, I haven't been held like that for a long time." Delly's voiced faded as she spoke.

Katniss, being her and not knowing much about physical touch, was left confused. Do people crave touch that bad? She changed her position from sitting to lying down on the Delly's bed. Delly followed her, resting her head on Katniss's chest. They hugged each other tight, not saying a word. Delly's circled her finger around on Katniss's chest. Each swirl made Katniss's breathing heavier. She just closed her eyes and tried to forget about everything else besides the girl beside her. She held her breath. Delly seemed to notice. "Katniss? Are you alright?"

Katniss exhaled deeply and shifted her position to her side, now facing Delly. She moved closer until their foreheads touched lightly. She smells like cinnamon... Katniss closed her eyes, not answering the girl's question. Delly relaxed even more, moving her body closer to Katniss's. A stir of emotions started building up inside her. She closed her eyes tighter, trying to fight the feeling she is now aware of. She opened her eyes only to find out that Delly was staring at her. "Your eyes," she whispered, "they're beautiful. I never really got to see them up close like this." The feelings inside Katniss grew heavier and heavier after each word.

She opened her mouth, trying to think of something to say. "Delly, I..." Katniss paused, leaving the blonde a bit confused, "Are you alright, Katniss?" Katniss sat down, Delly still on her back. She left the bed and picked up the broken tea cup pieces. She wasn't looking at Delly but she can tell that she left a confused soul on the bed behind her. After picking up all the pieces she found the trash bin and threw it all there. She got a damp towel and wiped the floor. Delly's still not moving... After she was done she went to the sink and wringed it dry. She washed her hands and left the room, leaving Delly behind.

What am I doing...
