It's been a few weeks since Annie kissed Katniss, almost a whole month. They've been hiding a little bit more, doing things a little bit more intimate, but nothing to scare Katniss off. After all she's only seventeen, but then, Annie's just a few years older than her. Does it really matter? Yes. It does. I have a boyfriend for god's sake. She wanted to stop seeing Katniss like this, but then, Katniss is all Annie wants right now. She knows that whatever happens, it's Katniss she'll be thinking of. She went to the cafeteria and saw Finnick, Katniss, Gale, Delly, and Johanna all together in one table. She grabbed a tray, got her food and sat down in the only space left available: between Katniss and Finnick. She knew how to keep her cool, but Katniss didn't seem to like it. All this time they've been avoiding each other in front of the others, in fear that they just might lose control and give away their secret.
Annie held Katniss's right hand under the table and gave her a reassuring squeeze, and the young brunnette let go. Annie resumed her eating and doing small talk with the others, she could just feel that Katniss wasn't at ease. Katniss stood up, grabbed her tray, and walked out, not saying a word. She didn't bother to say anything either, for it might give them away. Instead she looked at Finnick with concern, pretending she was worried for her partner instead of her lover. "She's been like that the whole month." Delly sighed. Everybody looked at Johanna, since she's Katniss's roommate. "What are you all staring at me for? I didn't do anything to your precious little mockingjay." Those last two words jumped off of Johanna's tongue and hit Annie right in the chest.
"I better go talk to her." Gale offered. As he was about to stand up, Annie held his hand, "Let me talk to her." She said with a smile. Gale sat back down and Annie was off. She could hear Finnick's voice, "Yeah, those two seem so close now. I'm happy." She wasn't sure if he meant it for her to hear that or not, either way a pang of guilt hit her heart. She rushed to the first place she can think of that Katniss would go to cry: her apartment room. She knocked on the door gently, "Go away, Gale!" she shouted. "Hey, little mockingjay, it's me," she said in the most hushed tone she can manage, "let me in and let's talk." A few seconds later Katniss opened the door and let her in. Katniss went back to her bed and Annie sat down beside her. Katniss placed her head down onto Annie's lap and she started to cry. I better comfort her. Annie's mind whispered. "Hey, why'd you run off like that earlier?"
Katniss turned to look at her. She saw one thing in her eyes, one thing Katniss was trying to say: I love you. That's why. Annie's eyes stared watering, but Katniss wiped them away. "I didn't even say anything." She smiled, tears stained her face. Annie leaned in, Katniss lifted herself up, and their lips met halfway. Time seemed to speed up and slow down at the same time. Annie held Katniss behind the neck and pushed her closer. After what seemed like mere seconds Katniss pulled away. "I love you." Annie whispered. Katniss opened her mouth but the voice didn't match. "What an amazing show." Both girls seemed surprised. They heard clapping by the door and saw someone they didn't really want to see right now.
"Johanna."
